Day 11- "SNL creates a lasting friendship."

The first time that I met this friend I was probably in grade school or maybe junior high.  I really can't remember.  Her brother and I were in the same class so I guess I just knew her from him.  When I was a senior she was a freshman.  We both were in spirit club together and ended up being tasked with doing a skit together for a pep rally.  We decided that we were going to do a spoof on the SNL skits that were popular at the time.  Night at the Roxbury had just come out so we thought it would be appropriate to do something with that and with Mary Catherine Gallagher and of course the spartan cheerleaders.  Needless to say our skit was a huge success and we were known for the best pep rally skit in years!  It was amazing.

Well, I graduated from high school in 99 and left for New Jersey to start the next chapter in my life.  I was excited to go on and have  new adventure.

Years later I found out that this friend was moving to Long island to become a nanny.  I emailed her and let her know that if she ever wanted to meet up in NYC that it wasn't that far for either of us and that it would be great to see her.  We ended up going into the city and meeting up with each other.  Soon after we found ourselves planning her move to New Jersey due to some circumstances out of her and my control.  We looked for an apartment together and finally found the perfect place in Millburn.  It was so awesome.

We both went to school and did the things that young college kids do.  We loved clubbing in the city and traveling by train to Hoboken for the great night life.  We got along well and enjoyed staying in as much as going out.  We had wonderful talks and gave each other advice for good things and bad things.  I may have sometimes treated her like a little sister, but it was only because I cared about her and wanted her to succeed in whatever it was she wanted to do.

In early 2006 I had decided that my time in New Jersey had come to an end.  I needed to be closer to family so I chose to move to Minnesota.  This friend was very supportive and totally understood.  My last summer in New Jersey was very memorable.  We spent lots of time at the shore, going out with friends, and just laughing.  She was a great roommate and friend and I was sad to go.

Through the next four years we have kept in touch and lived our lives.  I ended up going to grad school and received my MBA where she finished up school in her undergrad as well!  I was so proud and happy for her.  She had accomplished what she wanted and didn't let anything get in her way.  She had always had a vision to move to LA and she again did what she set out to do.

I admire this friend's determination and goals.  She is an amazing person who has a lot to offer in the world.  I believe she will go far.  I am just happy to call her my friend.

Here's to you Nena!
