Day 9- "Former Nannies brought us together."

When I first arrived in New Jersey I had no idea how to get around or what I was doing.  I didn't have any friends and my nanny family wasn't the friendliest.  In fact, I remember thinking, "what the heck am I doing here!?"  The nanny that left before me told me about a girl that would probably be contacting me soon about setting up a play date with our charges.  I was excited because I hoped that the girl would be younger and would want to hang out sometime.  I wasn't used to this "no social time" thing.

Once the girl contacted me I found out that she was going to set me up with the nanny that was replacing her so that we could schedule play dates with our charges.  I was pretty excited.

I met this new nanny a few days into my job and was embarrassed beyond belief.  I couldn't believe how pretty and well put together she was.  I was in a t-shirt and jeans.  (my normal high school look that I had brought to the east coast.)  I felt ugly and gross.  She seemed so above me and I figured she wouldn't want to hang out.

I was totally wrong!  She asked me to go to a movie about a week later.  I decided that I was going to go buy something new at the mall so that I could "fit" in.  I remember I spent more on a shirt and pants than I would have ever paid.  I didn't care though.  I was so happy.

This friend and I had a great time at the movie and started hanging out.  We quickly became close and she never knew about my fear of my appearance in the beginning.  I learned a lot about fashion and life as I got to know this friend.  I secretly looked up to her and admired her confidence and charisma.  As time went on we met other friends and had great bonding experiences through the years.

We had our ups and downs like any friends but overall remained best friends.  We eventually lived together and soon after she met her  now current husband and moved down to live with him.  Throughout the years we have kept in touch and have been there for each other through the ups and downs.

She doesn't know this but she truly helped me to become the person I am today.  She is an amazing person and I am so happy to call her my friend.

So, here's to you Nikki!
